“Afrin is living what Armenians lived during 1915 genocide”

Sadiye Abraham remembers her Armenian family’s tragedy saying the same is happening in Afrin.
At the age of 64, Sadiye Abraham, from Amûdê city of Rojava, said that the still deep pain the Armenians had experienced 103 years ago has become even deeper for those living in Afrin this year.
Sadiye Abraham’s father is one of the Armenians from Urfa who escaped from the 1915 Genocide while her mother is Kurd.
Sadiye Ana was born in Amûdê, but lives in Qamishlo. She defines herself as Armenian. She grew up with her father’s words in her head: “My children, never forget your origins”.
She is now living the pain of her father, her people. She says: “Today in Afrin, people are being kidnapped, murdered, women and girls are abducted, just as Armenians were in 1915”.

“Don’t forget your origins”

Speaking to ANF, Mother Sadiye tells that only her father and an aunt have survived the Armenian Genocide. “Until I went to sixth grade I always saw my father sad and worn out. He did not have any beautiful day. He was asking everywhere hoping to find his family. We are 6 siblings. He was always telling these stories. ‘Do not forget your origins, my children. Yes, you are Muslim today, but you are Armenian and Christian’. Because the family who took him had always hidden that he was Armenian, and they showed him as a Muslim. Because the Turks killed an Armenian wherever they saw him”.

Mother Sadiye goes on: “My father’s story is very painful and full of blood. Our heart still aches. We have not healed in 103 years. Our father is always with us. Our grandchildren and our children will carry this on. We will never forget what Turkey has brought on us”.

“Afrin brings new pain”

Mother Sadiye tells: “Today we are living and declaring our Armenian identity freely in the Democratic Autonomous Administration. What has been done to us, is happening now in Afrin. In Afrin they have retaken what they had done to us. No one makes a sound. Maybe we do not hear anything, but Afrin people are very oppressed. They take them from their homes put other people in their houses. They are doing exactly what they did to the Armenians, they removed them from their homelands, and they settled others and changed the name of their place. This is what they are doing in Afrin.”
