Turkey Sends 2nd Military Convoy to Iraqi Border
Turkey has sent the second military convoy the Silopi district of
southeastern Şıranak province at the border with Iraq. The convoy
consists of 37 military trucks, two armored personnel carriers, one
crane and some 150 military servicemen.
The vehicles were sent from Ankara and Çankırı by railway. They will
be deployed under the so-called “Peace Force” of the 28th Mechanized
Infantry Command on the Iraqi-Turksih border, about 150 km north of the
Iraqi city of Tal Afar (mostly populated by Turkmens that Ankara sees a
tool of influence in Iraq).
This has been the second Tukrish military convoy deployed to the
Iraqi border since the military operation aganist ISIS in the Iraqi
city of Mosul started on October 17.
The Ankara region is concerned over cross-border operation of the
Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) that is the main striking force of Kurdish
insurgency in Turkey.
