According
to reports on social media and from journalists in Rojava, the area
between Kobanê and Cizîre cantons has been cleansed of the ISIS gangs
and a corridor has been opened connecting the cantons for the first
time.
The
operation carried out by the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Burkan
Al-Firat (Euphrates Volcano) forces to liberate Girê Spî (Tel Abyad)
has meant that the area between Kobanê and Cizîre cantons has been
cleansed of the ISIS gangs. The operation has also cut off the ISIS
gangs corridor to Raqqa, their central base in Syria. The operation is
being supported by coalition airstrikes.
It
is expected that the YPG and Burkan Al-Firat will make a statement
tomorrow regarding the liberation of Girê Spî (Tel Abyad) tomorrow.
This
is a major victory for the people’s of Rojava (Western Kurdistan) and
Syria, and also for the democratic autonomous system proposed by the
Kurdish movement in the region.
