BEIRUT: Lebanese authorities have arrested one of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s wives on Lebanon’s border with Syria, the local daily As-Safir and Reuters reported Tuesday.
As-Safir
said Lebanese Army Intelligence, in coordination with Western
intelligence agencies, managed to arrest one of Baghdadi’s wives at one
of the border crossings while traveling with a fake passport with her
son.
She was taken to the Lebanese Defense Ministry where she is being interrogated, the report added.
The
report said the Lebanese Army remained quiet about the arrest over the
past few days. As-Safir considered the catch of the “big fish” a major
blow to ISIS.
The short report did not identify the wife or her son by name.
Reuters,
citing a Lebanese security source, also said one of Baghdadi’s wives
and one of his sons had been arrested on the Lebanon-Syria border.
